We celebrate International Mezcal Day with a very special guest. The Global Brand Ambassador of Ilegal Mezcal, Gilbert Marquez (@gilbertmezcal). Gilbert is bright, funny, outspoken, passionate and knows his Agave based sprits. With family ties to Sonora Mexico and 8 years of travel to meet Mescaleros (master distillers) face to face Gilbert has an intense appreciation for the craft of Mezcal and what makes it special.

He teaches us mezcal basics and talks about the special craft that is unique to mezcal alone. Agave can grow as many as 35 years before being harvested by hand, cooked underground and eventually distilled in traditional alembic copper stills.
