It's Tiki Baby!
I have small children in my house this week for the first time in a long time. You know what that means….short nights, boxes of diapers, toys underfoot & baby food cocktails..….wait.…..whaaatttt? Yeah, you read it right. C’mon, all those new flavor combos in the house. How could I resist?⠀⠀⠀
I know it sounds weird but baby food is actually pretty great. It’s organic fruit pureed in cool flavor combos. Of course you could do that yourself. But it’s pretty convenient it comes in a pre-measured little pouch. I was able to make 3 cocktails from the contents of one pouch. This banana-pumpkin purée simply screamed fall tiki cocktail. I simply added sugar & star anise, simmered for awhile and let the star anise infuse overnight. The consistency of the “Stage 2” baby food is perfect for shaking in a cocktail. It’s still pretty thin because it’s for smaller babies.
The homemade Falernum comes from the Seattle favorite, Canon Bar. The recipe appears in their award winning cocktail book. I have tried a number of Falernum recipes and this one is my favorite hands down. It’s the perfect blend of spice and lime. It is a bit more labor intensive that the “quick” recipes. But in my opinion the labor is worth it. The book is available on Amazon. Or if you are fortunate enough, signed copies are available at the bar.
